Beaulieu
A new residential development on the outskirts of Chelmsford in Essex. The design concept was inspired by the existing structure of the landscape, and the style and materials used in nearby villages such as Finchingfield.
The aspiration was to sensitively retain as much of the existing landscape of fields, hedgerows and ditches as possible, through designing the layout and ecology around this existing structure. This approach helped shape the masterplan with the proposed island surrounded by a moat - that brings back to life and extends the historic moat. The moat and roadside channels link together, forming the site wide sustainable drainage strategy.
The local building materials of brick and knapped flint have been proposed to form retaining walls, and incorporated within the architecture.
I was the project lead from inception up to when the project was put on hold prior to submitting the planning application, and I was responsible for liaising with the client and the design team.
