Substation play area

On the same housing estate as Ivy's Garden is an electricity sub-station surrounded by an un-used space. With the high density of housing and poor play provision in the area, the brief was to create a playable space for young children in this small space.

The play area was designed on a small scale for young children, and was packed with a wide range of different sensory experiences and play opportunities. From buried phones in artificial grass, rocks to clamber over, a chequerboard surface to make up games on, and a painted circle surrounding by dense planting to create a more hidden and secretive space.
