Yavneh College

Yavneh College is a Jewish faith school that brought back into use a derelict middle school building, with a building extension.

The brief for the landscape design included a high level of security with an outer and inner security fence, and a double lock gate entrance.

The design challenge was to provide the required level of security at the same time as creating a welcoming and friendly environment for the students. The solution was to use grading and grass mounds to create the required barrier from the outside, but which from the inside was visually unobstrusive.

I worked closely with the architects in integrating the building and landscape designs, for example, specifying clay pavers which extended from the reception of the main building out into the entrance courtyard..

I was in the landscape team from the start of the project, and then took over as project lead from planning through to construction and completion on site.
